The 10 best breakup songs to belt out

Break-ups are just awful aren’t they? There isn’t much one can do to stave off the sadness once the breakup has settled in. It feels perfectly okay to sob into the bath or sit at home on a Saturday night and cry into your curry for one. Heck, you probably won’t even wash for a few days. Greasy hair is okay, right?

We have other ideas. We think that singing songs, power ballads if you will, actually helps in such a crisis. Emotions are running high anyway so why not use them to belt out some classics as loud as you can? Singing does make you feel better you know, this is fact.  Besides, with our home karaoke kits you don’t even have to leave your living room to get the benefits. You still don’t have to wash if you don’t want to. It’s a judgement-free zone here.

Here are our top 10 breakup songs to help you get over the split:

1. Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Basically if he like, calls you loads, like, then just explain to him that, like, this is so exhausting and you are just never ever getting back together. Like...ever.

2. Michael Buble - Cry Me A River

Nooooowwwww you say you’re lonely, you cried the whole night through??? Yeah, well, cry us all a river! Chances are, you won’t hit the notes like Buble. But chances are, you’ll feel so much better just for trying anyway.

3. Beyonce - Irreplaceable

How about you just pack up all of his stuff and shove it all to the left. All of it, to the left. But if he bought it for you then technically that’s still yours.  Who knows, you may want to eBay it in the future for some girl’s weekend away dollar.

4. Jazmine Sullivan - Bust Your Windows

Let’s call this one a ‘metaphorical’ window smashing. Doubt you’ll feel better once the police arrive to question you over criminal damage. That aside, this is such a tune. Sing it, sing it loud and proud. I BUST THE WINDOWS OF YOUR CARRR.

5. Britney Spears - Stronger

We don’t care what you say about Britney - she ruled the nineties and noughties. This song works best when you create your own dance moves...with a dining room chair. If it’s good enough for Britters, it’s good enough for us.

6. Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone

As if this isn’t the best breakup song of all time? Singalong to this and you’ll find the tears are instantly dry. In fact, you’re smiling. Yes, smiling...remember that? Happy because you’ve realised that without them, life can in fact be more awesome.

7. P!nk - So What

Breakup? What breakup! Think you’re going to spend any more time wallowing in self pity? HELL NO! You’re going to go out there, party like you’re 21 and show everyone you’re a rockstar. Or, just sing this tune really loudly at home and knock a few vases over then quickly clean them up again before they stain the carpet. Both options work.

8. Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats

We must once again stress we don’t think causing criminal damage to your ex’s belongings is the way forward. However, Carrie does offer up a wonderfully addictive breakup tune. Listen to this and try not feel super awesome by the end of it, we dare you.

9. Elton John - I’m Still Standing

Now this little gem is great combined with the classic one-two step dance move. Really, if you think about it, you are actually still standing. In fact, you’re looking like a true survivor and probably, we assume, now feeling like a little kid? Thought so.

10. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

It was a tough decision as to whether to include this classic because, quite frankly, it’s the most over-sung karaoke song of all time. But truthfully we do know why. Because it makes you feel SO GOOD singing it. Or shouting it, whatever takes your fancy.
