Top 10 songs for the summer!

We’ve realised there are some songs which belong to certain parts of the year. No one would dream of playing the Mariah Carey classic ‘All I Want For Christmas’ in any month other than December (trust us, we’ve tried and it just sounds wrong). Well the same goes for summer and now the sun has appeared for longer than five seconds we’ve noticed that the same songs keep appearing. Take a look at our top ten to put you in the summer mood.

10. Lovely Day - Bill Withers

If you close your eyes while listening to this you could be anywhere in the world with the sun beating down on you. It’d just be cruel to play this at any other time than the summer – when it's realistic that the sun will appear.

9. Walkin' On Sunshine - Katrina and The Waves

We defy anyone to listen to this song (strangely it works better in the morning), and not be moving some part of their body to the rhythm – anything from hips to finger tapping! Considering this song talks about sunshine every second line – it must be a summer song.

8. Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams

If you don’t know all the words to this 1984 classic where have you been for the last 30 years? In fact here is a link to our karaoke version – get practicing!

7. The Middle - Jimmy Eat World

As soon as this song starts you wonder why you’ve not been listening to this all year… I will tell you why - it doesn’t feel right in the winter!

6. Livin' La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin

Make sure the sun is out and your cocktail is within arm's reach before you put this summer classic on!

5. Surfin' USA - Beach Boys

We at Lucky Voice know that the number of Beach Boys tracks that are sung dramatically decreases at the end of the summer. You can’t be ‘Surfin USA’ when it’s sleeting outside!

4. Hips Don't Lie - Shakira ft. Wyclef Jean

This can be guaranteed to be played in every bar in Europe at least 5 times a night between May and September for the next 20 years. A great summer track which, quite rightly, is ignored for the rest of the year.

3. Sunny Afternoon - Kinks

It really says it in the title!

2. Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

It’s been described as marmite but hate it or love it, you’ve got to appreciate the catchiness of the song.

1. All Summer Long - Kid Rock

The number of times ‘Summer’ is mentioned in this song would make it much too painful to listen to any other time of the year. But it’s a helluva song while sitting on the beach.
