A tribute to Prince

Yesterday, we all got to hear what it sounds like When Does Cry as we said farewell to the legend, Prince. His impact on the music industry has been astounding - he's deemed a pioneer and an innovator for not only his music but his stage presence and wide vocal range. His album Purple Rain, released in 1984, sold more than 13 million copies in the US and spent a whopping 24 consecutive weeks at no.1 on the Billboard chart.

At the stature of 5 foot 2, Prince may have been petite in proportion but his aura was immense. He actually started out in a band, The Revolution, before heading into a solo career and proving to the world he could make an impact all by himself. His talent with the guitar even saw him play in Madonna's hit track Like A Prayer. He produced nearly 40 studio albums across 4 decades whilst his music has been used, remixed and remastered, setting the scene in various iconic movies such as Romeo and Juliet and Little Woman.

His death coincided with Her Majesty's 90th birthday...and rather spookily, the Niagra Falls were lit up purple in celebration of the Queen. Hours later, Princes's death is announced. It seems like too much of a coincidence that the natural attraction was, quite literally, purple rain on Prince's day of passing. We think this was a beautiful double tribute.

Pay homage to this musical icon by singing all of his famous tunes on our Prince Tribute playlist. We hope when it next rains...it will be purple.
